”You didn't answer my question,” Edward pressed, sounding a little edgy.

”Why are you suppressing everyone's emotions?” I asked Jasper, keeping the annoyance out of my tone.

I turned to Esme and Carlisle again, “Your family is lovely. I don't mean to overstep my bounds here, but I have been traveling for days now, and with no companion to keep watch, I've been barely sleeping at night.”

”Kind sir, if you would please, I am simply being cordial in making acquaintances with your lovely family. It was not I who came up with those images after all. I can't help it if she possesses a special 'gift,'” I said, teasingly.

”She is my sister, Emmett's wife, Rosalie. She doesn't really like meeting new people,” Alice answered.

“I know as vampires, you have no need of sleep; and judging by your choice to take residence in this area in a stable home, you must keep these parts,” I continued with Esme and Carlisle.

”Why are you concerned? It should be no inconvenience to you, and if it is, you should leave this place. We have all chosen who we wish to be with,” Jasper responded, his tone very threatening.

I quickly continued with Edward, seeing that he was not one for my charades. “I am not sure how to answer your question right now. I could tell you what I am called, though I don't think that would really answer your question.”

I heard footsteps as Emmett took a step away and the beautiful blonde came down the stairs. ”She is vampire?” I asked Alice, thinking that she was far too beautiful to be a vampire and surely she was one of my own kind.

”I am not human, nor am I vampire. I do not wish to be a threat to your family. As I mentioned before, I was looking for a safe place,” I carried on with Edward.

”I promise you I will not break the sacred bond of mates. It is clear that you are bonded to Alice, Esme to Carlisle and Emmett to this Rosalie,” I spoke, allowing my sincerity to be magnified as I did, to Jasper, hoping that he would calm down a little. It was true though. ”I would never break that bond, it goes against everything I know to do such a thing. We are bred to 'enhance' a vampire coven, not to break them up. I only wish to enrich your relationships.”

Esme and Carlisle looked taken aback. “I know we are but strangers, and perhaps I am being too bold. It's just that I am used to residing with vampires, I am draghi,” I explained, hoping to make them more comfortable with the idea. I really did need to sleep well and recharge myself.

Rosalie stood next to Emmett, contempt in her eyes. Carlisle's eyes lit with recognition.

“How have you come here? Who do you belong to? Where is your coven?” Carlisle asked, in a rush.

Jasper seemed to change from defensive to curious so I explained to him how I could see ones emotions just as he could, though I was strictly restricted to those of desire. Greed, lust, gluttony, they're all forms of desire. It was in my nature to feed off one's desires, kind of like a succubus though I was not one of them. I told him if he allowed it, it would all be second nature to them, they would allow themselves to be attracted to me and to desire me and it would no longer be taboo or dangerous to their relationships because it would just be 'normal'. I don't think he quite understood what I was saying, but he seemed to release his grasp on everyone's emotions just the same.

Everyone focused on our conversation now. “My coven has passed on. I was spared. I have lost the one whom I've claimed and I've been seeking their murderer for three years. My sources have led me here, though I've yet to come across their scent.”

“I am sorry for your loss,” Carlisle responded, placing his fist over his heart and bowing his head. He sounded truly sincere and I drank in the pink wisps of his desires- feeling satisfied that red ones were floating towards Esme.

”Any funny stuff, and you're out of here,” Edward said, a little exasperation in his tone.

“Edward is the only one in the house who has a bed. I am sure he would not mind if you would sleep there this evening,” Carlisle said, in such a way that I knew he knew Edward had a complete problem with me sleeping in his room.

“I thank you for your hospitality,” I said, returning the respect he had given me. I wonder how he came to know of us, yet none of the others have?

I turned to Edward then, who was already walking up the stairs to his glassy room.
